Texas Sports BettingDec 04 |
Unfortunately, sports’ betting is still far from becoming a reality in Texas. However, if you were to look for the best Texas sports betting sites you may not be disappointed. There had been some positive developments in this direction in 2021 and that made Texans optimistic. But, for now, they will have to wait till the legislation is again put on the table in 2023. While there were rumors that sports’ betting was going to get legalized in the state, the legislators missed the deadline in May when the legislative session got over. The biggies in the sports industry that have voiced their support in favor of sports betting include the Mavericks, Cowboys owner, and Texas Rangers.
While Texas may be known for supporting personal freedom, the truth is the state is still rather conservative where gambling is concerned. This conservative mindset has therefore extended even to sports betting which is naturally not legal in the state.
The bill which had been introduced in the legislature included provisions authorizing both mobile and online betting for residents of Texas. It also advocated measures like supervision by the Texas Commission of Licensing and regulation, a 6.25% tax for sports bets, betting on college and professional sports, etc. Lawmakers feel that any step to legalize betting will need a referendum for amending the constitution. So, passing any bill in favor will prove to be a challenge.
